Another heatwave has engulfed the West, Southwest US as high pressure once again elevates towards 600dm.

However, it’s not just the Southwest that’s cooking but it’s cooling all the way up into northwest Canada.

Far northern Alaska even felt the heat with Deadhorse on the Arctic Coast reaching a record 85 while further south it reached the 90s.

While the Yukon and Northwest Territories sweated beneath the upper ridge, further east beneath a downstream upper low, Nunavut actually had record cool.

While Palm Springs, CA sweltered at 121 and Yuma, AZ 118, Phoenix set a new record high yesterday of 116, nearby thunderstorms kept Las Vegas slightly cooler which kept temps below record values.

Of course for the ultimate hot spot, one goes to Death Valley and indeed a new daily record high was achieved.
