US experiencing coolest August since 2004, likely to continue through September

It’s been a VERY cool August for the majority of the US thus far and models don’t show much of a heat wave through September except for the Northwest.

This will probably be the coolest August for the country since 2004 and perhaps coolest on record for parts of the Midwest.

Interestingly, according to Steve Goddard, in terms of US high temperatures it’s the 7th coolest August on record.

It looks like that cool pattern holds through much of September according to the CFSv2 weeklies.
