A powerful upper ridge continues to bake the Great Basin and Northern Rockies in temperatures 10-15 above normal this week and through the first half of the weekend but that core of heat shifts onto the Plains next week.

This summer’s heat should peak in SW California including the LA area during Friday.

Drought has worsened in the N Rockies/Plains thus helping boost surface temperatures.

 

Note the core of the 594dm ridge is centred over the central plains next week.

Notice how the hottest east shifts east of the Rockies in response.
