Arctic Outbreak of January 2017 round 2 is well underway with focus shifted into Southwest Europe as the coldest weather of the year drives across France Spain and the Western Med.

High pressure positioned over N France has mild Atlantic air running over top into the Northern British Isles while bitter continental air slides underneath.

The Southeast corner of England saw a sharp frost thanks to clear, calm skies and dry continental air while the core of cold hung over France yesterday with Paris failing to get above freezing.

The low in Paris this morning appeared to hit -4C in the city, colder outwith.

Even as of late morning, the breeze was bitter out there.

By this morning, the Siberia air mass had sank in over Iberia and much of the peninsula was well below freezing this morning.

Wind chills last night got down to -20C in the central mountains but even Barcelona suffered a wind chill down to -6.5C and a low of -1C…

Most maximum temperatures in the Balearics occurred during the morning hours yesterday. Sure was a cold day in the Balearics.

Further east and those powerful, bitter bora winds were blowing once again from Balkans to Italy with significant sea effect snow generated over the Adriatic and dumped on eastern and central Italy.
