COLORADO: Downslope Winds Gust 80-101 mph Toppling Dozens Of Trucks, Cause Significant Damage

Colorado is no stranger to powerful downslope or Chinook windstorms. Yesterday was right up there with one of the stronger.

It was the classic set-up with a strong storm system coming onshore in California with tightening pressure gradient between a high over Montana and low sliding underneath. The pressure squeeze is enhanced by the Rockies and often winds which blow over the crest of the mountains, accelerate on descent.

Wind gusted 101 mph.
