We are firmly under the influence of a monster Scandinavia ridge and will continue to be through the upcoming weekend. A low running the SE flank and drifting into Poland will enhance the ENE flow and while likely bringing snowfall to some, I expect chillier air to reach the UK late week as the nagging easterly flow continues with origins in Russia.
Europe is pretty cold by early October standards this week but next week sees it even colder as Hurricane Matthew is expected to run up the Eastern US and push the ridge currently over Canada ENE across the Atlantic.
The models show the Canada and Scandinavia ridges merging and that means the continuation of a cold easterly feed into Europe underneath. It’s a dry but cool pattern that looks set to hold through at least mid month.
