General model consensus with 99L remains with a US threat as high pressure builds from US out into the Atlantic sealing off the northern escape route.

We expect to see significant, potentially flooding rainfall across Puerto Rico.

Gaston is nearing hurricane status while 99L is nearing storm status and while Gaston shall remain no threat to land or at least the US mainland anyway, 99L is and needs to be watched closely, especially given that the system will run over 86-90F water in the coming days.

Over increasingly warm water 99L may be but it’s shear that’s slowing down the strengthening process.
