One day it’s warm and muggy, the next it’s warm but fresher. This weekend shall see another Atlantic low of autumn intensity bring gales to Scotland and a surge of summer to London and the Southeast. Ahead of the low, somewhere could top 28C, once the front departs and winds veer NW, we may only see 21C in London & SE.
With the sub-freezing isotherm at 850mb sinking down over Scotland next week, don’t be surprised to see town and city centres dip to between 6-8C, 3-5C in countryside while -2C is possible in sheltered Highland Glens.
Still hot and hotter than normal across Iberia and Med.

That’s after we could see 40 mph gusts widely, 70 mph gusts along exposed coasts/hill tops across Scotland/N Ireland/N England.

As we progress through next week, the large Atlantic ridge spanning from the Azores to Greenland builds into Western Europe and so instead of only the SE of England enjoying another surge of summer, I still think mid-20s is possible even for Scotland next weekend.

Return to the 20s for Scotland next weekend? Certainly the models continue to hint at it.
