Relentless rainfall into the early part of the warm season makes for rapid crop growth. A lot of water is contained within both crop and soil beneath and when a powerful upper ridge develops, so the heat draws water vapour into the atmosphere increasing humidity.

The below radar estimated rainfall for July so far indicates a rather wet area from North Carolina to Kansas up to Minnesota.

So, wet ground with strong ridge above, leads to higher humidity.

As a result the wet ground, abundance crop and heat has increased humidity to Caribbean levels as far north as North Dakota.
