Spring and now early summer has been turbulent across much of Europe, opposite of the same time last year and now that our beloved high pressure bubble has burst, the UK joins the rest in this messy start to summer 2016.

Flooding downpours, lightning and even funnel clouds have been the main talking point.

Low pressure spinning directly over England is enhancing the upward motion and with strong surface heating and spin, further funnel cloud formation is likely along with flooding downpours and lightning displays.

MO warning in place for those torrential downpours today.

An ENE flow across Scotland has us less turbulent with laden, rainy skies and a chilly breeze blowing in off the North Sea. It’s a real soaker in NE Scotland today!

Little change now through Friday.

The heart of Europe is no picnic either.

Storms continue to rumble on over central Europe with pretty rare level 2 warning issues for N Italy and Czech Rep which lies to the S and E of the low.

This is likely to produce more scenes like this captured a day ago in Northern Italy.

Notice in the below GFS surface how the UK low clears giving us a break while the troublesome central Europe low swings up into the Baltic Sea where heavy rain, gusty winds is likely to cause shipping problems.

Then the next Atlantic system rolls across Ireland and Northern UK.

Looks like the GFS operational and ensemble has high pressure making a comeback towards the end of the month.
