When looking back at the Canadian February solution issued back in Jan 31 and what actually happened, Id say it’s done a pretty good job, especially with it’s 500mb height anomaly. It had the right idea with temps but not cold enough from Minneapolis to Atlanta.

While it’s been all about the snow and cold of late, I thought I would take a look this evening at the record warmth that’s been affecting the Southwest.
A strong +PNA has helped sustain Southwest ridging and underneath we’ve seen records fall with late spring-like warmth which drove LA to it’s first February 90 since 2002 while Phoenix soared to it’s earliest 90 on record.

Thanks to the classic Santa Ana, the hottest weather occurred in Orange County with Anaheim reporting 97 while Santa Ana topped 94.

Palms in the Porter Ranch area of SoCal flexed in the sustained 20-30 gusting 40 mph Santa Ana winds.

While the cooler and more unsettled weather has pushed into California and the West, the heat has slide east into the Plains where records have tumbled.
