System Which Buried US East Coast Brought Flooding, Damaging Winds To Scotland Today

This is rather late and brief I know. Been on the road since 5.15 this morning and not had much time today.

Weather is grabbing the headlines today as the 1st of 3 major lows impact us this week. I’m currently up in Dundee and boy isn’t it blustery out there. Winds have blown over two lorries on the A1 while parts of a chimney blew off a building in Edinburgh which smashed through a bus window and injured a man. Various restrictions on the bridges and ferries.

The current system leaves this evening but another band of heavy rain lifts north tonight as another system sweeps in hot on it’s heels. Once the 2nd low swings out into the North Sea later tomorrow we see increase wind and lowering snow levels.

Some snow will return to higher parts of N England and Scotland tonight and tomorrow in the wake of the current low then following the Wednesday system, colder air gets pulled in and we could see snow levels drop quite low Wednesday night/Thursday and following the Friday system too.

It’s pretty interesting to see the models begin to pick up on North Atlantic blocking with deepening Europe trough day 5-10.

Both EPS Control and GFS ensemble are seeing this.
