Scandinavian High To End Heat wave, Bring Prolonged Settled Weather To UK, Ireland

It’s been a wet open to Friday, stormy for some but there’s rarely a west to east split in precipitation than this morning.

While bone dry in Glasgow, it was pouring it down 35 miles east in Edinburgh.

Of course heavy rainfall has made for travel issues through the heart of England too.

The GFS did a pretty good job at holding the focus of precip in the east.

The good news is that while we settle down this weekend with the worst of the weather pulling into the near continent, the high which builds does appear to hold into next week.

There is a change in the pattern. A setup not seen this summer so far but may bring ALL of the UK into a sustained settled regime.

A building Scandinavian high heralds the welcome change. This high through the course of next week looks to expand south and west, eventually forcing a front across the UK from the east, yes our weather looks to reverse next week and that front looks to push out over the Atlantic while we sit beneath the western flank of this large high pressure zone mid to late next week.

For Northern Ireland and Scotland, this could be the most sustained ‘settled weather’ since June! Early week is settled with high pressure now building in from the west. Then we get a front swinging in the continent and this forces out any incoming weather from the Atlantic. This high looks to shield us for a decent amount of time and as you can see from the below charts, it shall also break the historic heat wave over central and eastern Europe as the front sinks south! Look for flooding rains and possible severe weather through next week.

Scandinavian high is saving grace to those suffering the persistent heat from Germany east.
