While temps soar to the highest values of summer in the East, we’re talking record cold, wind and even snow in the Northern Rockies.

It’s been a cooler, wetter than normal summer for the Northeast following a record cold winter but this week it’s all about the heat and humidity.

Yesterday’s highs and lows.

Temps have finally reached 100 degrees today in Houston, TX after nearly 2 years without.

Meanwhile a powerful cold front has swept through Montana and the Dakotas bringing autumnal 50-60 mph winds, 40 degree temp drops and even snow.

Winds could cause localised damage and set new records today.

Today’s highs are nothing to write home about over Montana and Wyoming, a good 10-15 below normal for late July.

A cold one follows tonight…

While it’s winter in the N Rockies, it’s full blown summer in the East.

The heat and humidity peaks tomorrow.

Here’s the culprit for all the intense wind, cold and snow in the Rockies. An unusually potent low spinning on the US-Canada border.

Next week sees the heat back into the West while a trough and cooler air filters into the East, a sign of things to come in August.
