It was, as expected, a truly bone-chilling morning from Ontario to Washington DC. In fact it was colder than expected for some spots including a -32 in Chandlers Valley, PA (according to NWS of Stat College) and -30 at Smethport NW PA.

It was not just the coldest of winter but the coldest in some 10 even 20+ years. New York City’s 3 and Boston’s -3 was the lowest since Jan 2004 while Philadelphia’s reading of 3 was in fact the coldest since 1994.

-18 at Erie, PA tied an all-time record. -13 in Youngstown and -12 Cleveland (both Ohio) were record lows.

As you’d expect, there were records north of the border too.

Major snow and ice storm is currently affecting the Mid-Mississippi/Tennessee Valleys pushing towards Charlotte, Richmond, DC, Baltimore and Philly metros.

Nashville, TN has some serious icing today. Their in an ice storm warning currently… Dangerous to be out and about.
