Here comes that trough behind the clipper.

Remember I said that the cold of Tue-Wed is wave one. Well there’s another 2 clippers which dive down late next week into the weekend. This air mass which follows appears COLDER and this is the frigid opening to Feb.

If this series of clippers do the business, then there will be a solid foot of snow in the Big Cities when and if this extremely deep, frigid trough drops in. This could be one of the coldest starts to a Feb in the last 20 years.
ECMWF snow cover by day 10.

The 500mb height anomalies show the strength of this trough nicely.

Appears to CFSv2 weeklies has flicked the cold switch. Not often does it show a cold to very cold 4 WEEK outlook from the Plains eastward.

No post tomorrow. Will have a full update (video/write-up) again Monday!
