WESTERN EUROPE: Models Hold ‘Colder Than Normal Pattern’ Into February

I said in the video that I wasn’t going to post.. well just a few thoughts on this chilly Sunday afternoon.

Cold night ahead but nothing unusual when you’ve an arctic air mass sitting over fresh snow cover!

These temps are very dependant upon clear sky and light wind in just the right place. There will be snow showers in places that will slow or halt cooling.

Tue AM will be no picnic either only temps bottom out during the early part of the overnight as clouds roll in.

The front edging in Tuesday is a bit of a headache as I’m not sure how much snow (or rain/sleet) it will produce. These situations where Atlantic fronts push into cold air masses are difficult to forecast.

Both GFS and ECMWF have a solid snow covering the UK by this time next week.

More cold nights are likely by the end of this upcoming workweek into the weekend in the wake of low.

Both GFS ensemble and EPS control keep it colder than normal over the UK and western Europe through the remainder of January into February.
