Well, well well, it may be a new month but it’s the same weird and wacky pattern! While the pattern is seemingly monotonous, the stats are anything but. August is only 4 days old and we’re already talking record cold once again. July saw some outstanding chill, so August is also and as posted in recent days, there is no real sign of any heat wave on the horizon.
While August opens as one of the coldest, even coldest for parts of North Carolina and 4th coldest since 1899 in Dallas, TX, one place you don’t associate with cold in summer is Death Valley, CA.
Here’s how this August stands for Charlotte, NC compared to normal.

The maximum temperature yesterday at Death Valley was a mere 89 degrees. You would expect that to be a low at this typically scorching time of year.
Yesterday was the coldest August day and first 80s for Death Valley since 1984. It also smashed the old record cool high by 15 degrees!

Bertha Becomes 2nd Hurricane Of Season
Oh, Bertha has become a hurricane in case you didn’t know. Why is she second in the headline/title? She poses no real threat to the US. In fact Bertha poses more threat to the UK than US.

Water temps are above normal in Bertha’s path over the next few days and with slackening shear, further strengthening is likely.
