Written by on May 21, 2014 in Rest of Europe, United Kingdom & Ireland with 0 Comments

The heat continues to blister Northwest Russia and Scandinavia as a powerful upper ridge transports Middle East heat all the way to the sub-arctic. Highs climbed to a record 32.5C or 91F in St Petersburg while Moscow topped a second straight 29C or 85F yesterday. Back on Monday, Archangel on Russia’s White Sea Coast topped 31C or 88F which set a new May heat record. The average high up here in barely into the low teens never mind low 30s.

Moscow still has a shot at tying their all-time May record of 31C in the next couple of afternoons.

Check out the GFS temperature and more impressively the anomalies for today and through the second half of this week. We’re talking 22-24C ABOVE NORMAL. Impressive to say the least!

As you can see the heat drifts west across Poland, Germany and Scandinavia in the coming days while the intensity eases over Russia.

UK Flooding Rain Threat Next 24 Hours!

Meanwhile, we here in the UK await the arrival of some very wet weather tonight into tomorrow.

Heavy rain/thunderstorm pulses appear to be clustering over France as of this writing and all this intense rainfall is heading UK-bound and should be spreading into Southern England early this evening. The energetic pulses ridi9ng a warm, southerly flow should push into Northern England overnight and could pose a flood threat along with dramatic lightning displays etc.
