Get ready.. Snow is on the way for ‘parts’ of the UK Friday and through this weekend. This pattern that’s now evolving and has been alluded to since early and mid last week with hints since New Year, is now taking shape.

An easterly flow will draw continental air across the North Sea and over the UK this weekend and with a weather system merging, snow will break out, especially over higher ground initially.

It’s as a weather system moves southwestwards as a high over Scandinavia builds, so colder air will begin to take hold. Gone is the mild.

By Monday the GFS shows snow for a large part of the UK as colder air works in from the east while moisture is still involved from the retreating low that’s backing southwest. The lack of moisture through next week will mean that any snow is likely confined mainly to eastern areas exposed to the easterly flow.

Check out the ECMWF for this weekend. Note the much colder 850 temps. Highs will struggle to get above 1-2C while night lows drop below 0C. Wind chills with be below freezing throughout the day.
