It’s a dull, seasonable day throughout Scotland with a lot of cloud and outbreaks of light rain here and there. Watch for lingering mist and fog within valleys. Highs this afternoon rise to near 6C.

Tonight will see a mix of cloud and clear spells and with a light wind regime expect temperatures to cool towards 2-3C in towns and cities, near to freezing in rural parts. Watch for patchy icy and frost by Tues am.

A much quieter day on Tuesday following a cool (and for some, frosty) night under clear skies. Mist and fog may linger for much of the day in sheltered parts and where it does, highs may struggle at 2 or 3C.

By Wednesday more wet and windy weather arrives with the next system off the Atlantic.

England

It’s a cool, blustery and unsettled start to the week for much of England with a rash of heavy showers blowing in from the Atlantic on the south side of a low crossing Scotland. Through this afternoon these showers may become heavier and more persistent for many, expect a stiff wind in the west and over top of the Pennines, any brightness will be confined to eastern parts thanks to any shelter provided by the Pennines. Highs will be a 1-2C below the seasonal average at 5-9C, feeling cooler in the wind. Watch out for a rough evening commute as locally heavy rains many slow traffic down with poor visibility and surface water.

Into Tuesday and it’s a much quieter, drier day though remaining fairly cloudy. Highs rise to between 5-9C once again but with lighter winds, expect those numbers to feel more comfortable.

By Wednesday yet more wind and rain arrives with the next Atlantic depression.

Wales

It’s a blustery and unsettled first day of the week throughout Wales with a stiff west wind transporting heavy showers in and across the country. Highs today will be near normal at 5-10C, feeling cooler in the wind.

Through tonight things dry out as the showers blow east. Clear skies and a slackening wind will allow inland parts to cool off to near freezing so watch for icy patches by morning as well as frost.

A much improved day on Tuesday throughout the country, highs similar to today at 5-10C, much drier with a chance at seeing some sunshine or brightness from time to time.

It all goes downhill again by Wednbesday as more wet and windy weather arrives.

Northern Ireland

A showery day across the country will make way for a drier, less breezy and clearer night to come and with those ingredients come the risk of frost and fog patches. Today’s highs range from 5-8C and lows tonight dip away to between 1-3C for most.

Tomorrow looks to be a decent day with highs similar to tonight but it’s all change come late Tuesday into Wednesday as a band of rain, accompanied by a stuff south winds pushes in from off the Atlantic. Milder air follows the front.

Ireland

It’s a wet and blustery day across Ireland with a stiff west wind driving in those heavy showers. Highs albeit mild will feel cooler in the strong west wind, watch along the west coast for some flooding around high tide, wind gusts beyond 40, perhaps 50 mph later today is possible.

Tonight will see winds eventually easing, drying out but it will stay cloudy, especially in eastern areas. Clearer skies are possible in central and western areas and here, lows dip to 2-3C with patchy, light frost possible.

A dry but cloudy day for your Tuesday but at least rain showers will be minimal, highs will top similar values to today at 6-10C.

Wet and windy weather arrives late tomorrow into Wednesday.
