chicago-rainNortheast

It’s a largely dry, bright Saturday afternoon throughout the Northeast with seasonal temperatures. Expect afternoon highs in the 30s across New England, extending as far south as Hartford and across western New York, low 40s for NYC, mid-40s for Philly, upper 40s for Baltimore and Wash DC. By this evening a system over the Ohio Valley will spread rain into Pennsylvania, while a mix may occur over western New York, especially over higher terrain. Those rains will push into the Major Cities overnight.

Overnight lows range from the mild 40s with rain across the interior Mid-Atlantic, 30s with clearer skies in the Cities, 20s from Hartford north but rain will push east and this will turn to snow as it hits the colder air over New England.

Sunday messy throughout the region, looking mild with 50s and rain from the Ohio Valley to Mid-Atlantic, 30s with snow or snow, sleet, rain mix from western Upstate NY to NYC north. Highs will once again be mostly in the 40s across the region, 30s up in New England.

Midwest

A system pushing through the Midwest has brought AM rains from OKC up through KC and into Des Moines while PM rains will exit Illinois, pushing into Indiana and Ohio. Further north and we find a thermal contrast zone which brings a wintry mix and all snow to parts of eastern North Dakota but this ends early, then Minnesota, Wisconsin into the UP of Michigan. Parts of central Minnesota including the Twin Cities may pick up an inch or two, areas to the north may see 2-4, locally 6 inches.

Temperatures remain mild in the low to mid-50s throughout the Lower Midwest, 30s for ND, MN and northern WI.

Into your Saturday night and the mix turns to mainly snow across Minn and northern Wisc with temperatures holding near freezing. Clearing across ND as precip heads east so expect temperatures to fall into the upper single digits to low teens by Sun AM. 30s and 40s further south under clearing skies.

Sunday looks better for much of the eastern Plains and Midwest as the storm system pushes east, sunny skies follow but most will remain milder than normal with 40s, 30s where fresh snow lies and across eastern ND, it will be seasonal at 15-20 degrees.

South

Saturday is looking largely fine, sunny and mild for most, however the fly in the ointment is the threat of showers and a few t-storms this afternoon from Louisiana up through Tennessee in association with the tail of a front. Much of today will be fine and dry from Mississippi on east. Highs in the 70s along the Gulf Coast including FL, 60s for central LA, MS, all of AL, GA, 50s for northern LA, MS, TN.

Tonight and it’s mainly fair with some rainfall increasing across Louisiana, Miss and this will spread east through tonight and into Sunday. Lows mainly in the 50s, perhaps 40s in the north.

Sunday will see a slightly gloomier day with a chance of rain or showers for many. Highs will be similar to today.

West

The stormy and unsettled theme continues throughout the West with low elevation rain likely for most while snow, locally heavy can be expected above 3-4,000ft. Watch out in Spokane, Boise, Cheyenne, Salt Lake, Denver, Flagstaff for periods of heavy off and on snow showers. Gusty winds may make for tricky travel conditions on higher, exposed routes. Periods of rain, locally heavy can be expected from Seattle all the way down the coast to San Diego and into the Central Valley. A stiff onshore wind will make it feel rather raw out there. Today’s highs will be in the low 50s for the coastal cities, 40s for the Central Valley and 30s for the Intermountain West with 20s above 6,000ft.

Into tonight and much of the same with snow levels perhaps lowering to 2,000ft as night temperatures cool for most inland areas into the low and mid-20s. Even the Central Valley and areas of the eastern Seattle, Portland Metros may dip into the 30s. Teens and single digits for high-elevation valleys and basins.

Sunday will be a near repeat of Saturday with always that chance of coastal and low-elevation rain showers, high elevation snow showers. Highs in the 50s along the coast, 30s for inland areas.
