>Todays Extremes here at the house
High 42 degrees (2.44pm) Low 29 degrees (8.53am)
RAIN: Light rain at times
A morning which dropped some 20 degrees from yesterday’s mild 49 with a low this morning of 29 degrees which brought some frost. Interestingly as of 2.40am it was 33 degrees and only 30 mins later the temp jumped up to 35 degrees, skies clouded somewhat but later on during the early hours, skies cleared out allowing heat release and a drop in temp. I did observe a severe frost and icy stretches under clear skies over the upper reaches of Dumfries and Galloway around 6.30am around the Wanlockhead area, some 1,531 ft in elevation whilst only 7 miles to the west in Sanquhar there was no frost or ice. The few hundred feet elevation contrast showed a sharp contrast from perhaps mid-20 degree air at 1,531ft and mid-30 degree air below 800ft. An overall cloudy to partly sunny day and mild with a good recovery in temp to low 40s this afternoon. Tonight skies are expected to once again clear out and with light winds, a frost and below freezing temps are expected. This will continue as we end January 2010, bagging another 4 or 5 frosty nights with mild days under sunshine and cool nights under clear skies which will usher in the new month.
