With the aid of Atlantic lows piling in towards the British Isles, an unusually powerful and warm upper ridge has stacked up to the west of Iberia.

Tropical Tidbits
On Friday, with strong sun, warmth and southerly breeze the thermometer soared to 37.7C at Alvega, Portugal. This surpassed the previous Portugal record for October of 37.6C set at Amareleja in 2004.
