As stated in yesterday morning’s video, we end this holiday week on a warm note with potential for low 20s as the ridge core drifts into the Low Countries and turns our flow SSE. That’s already drawing in drier, continental air which heats and cools faster. Did you have a frost this morning? We could see many go from -2/+2C up to 16-19C today. Thursday and Friday will see both Southeast England as well as Northeast Scotland see temps climb, possibly into the low 20s. This was forecasted here first since back last weekend… BBC and others now catching on.

Make the most of it because our weather changes abruptly into the weekend as a low finally punctures the high pressure bubble that’s been shielding. That system opens the door to much fresher air along with the return of wind and rain. That shapes our pattern for next week.

Here’s the a look at the latest GFS surface charts.

High pressure gets displaced south for next week while an active Atlantic flow which systems embedded cross mainly the Northern UK. The South, on the whole shouldn’t be too bad with more dry days than wet and with SW winds as systems approach, temps should rise into the mid and high teens.

Notice in the below GFS ensemble 5-day mean 500mb height anomalies that the ridge becomes more and more supressed by a strengthening Icelandic trough. After a 7 day stretch of milder, drier, we’re heading into a cooler, wetter period through mid-month. The North Atlantic trough continues to rule.
