US: Northeast Snow Tonight, Pattern Shift On The Way…

As stated in last night’s post, we have another snow system pushing through the Northeast tonight and this may bring snow even to Boston and New York, most certainly to points inland to the west.

Also pointed out last night that the end to all this is now on the horizon! Won’t disappear overnight but the first signs are there as modelling develops a trough over Alaska and as this drops down the West Coast, heights will reluctantly begin to rise further east.

The next Pacific system arrives on the West Coast mid week and forces a trim in temps over the Southwest, drives warmer east and increases the severe weather risk in the Plains.

SPC has a slight risk pretty far north for the first time this year!

This system not just pulls ANOTHER cold air mass down (each one weaker than the last because of the time of year) but increases the Easter weekend snow if not rain threat for the Northeast.

I showed you the GFS ensemble yesterday. Here’s the EPS control today. The flip is coming…

With the trough digging south, that means cooler and quite likely wetter conditions for California and the West.

Notice the increase in West Coast precip between day 7 and 10. Quite a wet pattern east of the Rockies.
