Check out these latest images of the Boston snow pack captured today by resident Chris Faulkner! According to the NWS, Boston tied the all-time record snow depth following the latest dump which dropped 22″ and this quantified as the city’s 7th biggest snowstorm in history and amazingly the 2nd top 10 snowstorm in the last 10 days.

Notice the South may get in on some of the white stuff, particularly day 7-10! Reason is that we have more southern branch energy getting involved and the ‘Pacific systems’ look to ride the southern flank of the arctic trough that will be firmly established over the East. Look out Memphis, Nashville, Charlotte and possibly Atlanta, looks like you guys may see the worst of winter coming up. It’s going to turn frigid here too.

Latest on the arctic trough ready to drop into the Eastern United States this weekend has true ‘polar vortex’ qualities. Why? As Joe Bastardi of WeatherBell points out, the coldest air mass/trough, relative to averages from surface up through all levels of the atmosphere is in a given place and that place is the Northeast this weekend into early next week.
