Another cold morning across the Northern Tier. Downright frigid and coldest of the season for Ohio, Michigan and the interior Northeast.

Yes, this final in a series of arctic highs to come down has sure packed a punch. Yesterday saw temps hit -35 in Minnesota and -21 in Iowa. This morning, Grand Rapids, MI plummeted to not just the lowest value of winter (-13) but the coldest reading since Feb 1996.

Down in Ohio it got down to -18 at New London.

Up in Maine, Van Buren sunk to -34. The -28 in Houlton is their coldest of the season but not a record according to the NWS.

Ok, so make the most of this upcoming warmth as there’s strong support of major cold returning before the end of the month.

While there’s a flip coming. A major flip back occurs very soon after!

The big test coming up is this.. based on what I’m seeing… could the end of January be COLDER than the start of January?
