Not much write up required here. Quite the rollercoaster this week with taste of summer Monday-Tuesday but winter makes a return by Good Friday.

You can see in the below GFS ensemble 5-day mean 500mb pattern the dramatic shift in the blocking high between day 1-5 and 6-10 with retreat from Europe to Greenland.

Could see 24C in England…

Slide the block west, northwest and bang, down comes the hammer!

Same areas which saw 20s Tuesday, sees only 8C Good Friday!

No let up day 11-15, in fact the chill looks stronger than the previous 5 days which is impressive to see the model showing this this far out.

Cold is no stranger to April but it’s going to be interesting to see whether this is a run of the mill ‘nagging chill’ or something more.

GFS snow depth NEXT Tuesday.

Like the GFS ensemble, the CFSv2 weeklies sees the warmth week 1 then cold week 2 but flips back warm week 3. Will be interesting to see how strong and long lasting the impending cold pattern will be.
