Thanks to an unusually persistent area high pressure, rainfall has been considerably below normal this April and in turn has led to a spell of unusual April warmth. The dominant Scandinavian high initially brought a taste of late winter some 7-10 days ago but during the past week, many parts of the British Isles as well as much of Western Europe have enjoyed the warmest Easter weekend in recorded history.
With abundant wall to wall sunshine, a light SE flow off a warm continent and dry ground, most have enjoyed the June-like warmth.
Since last Wednesday, temperatures have risen daily.
Rewind back to last Sunday and remember these WINDCHILLS?
Fast forward to Easter Saturday…
The warmest temperature recorded on Saturday was 25.5C at Gosport, Hampshire but this was short of the UK Easter Saturday record of 29.4C set back in 1949.
Not just warmest Easter temperature but warmest April day on record for Edinburgh’s Gogarbank (23.6C) and Dubin, Ireland (21.7C).
New top 5 warmest April days on record for Dublin Airport with Saturday and Sunday just gone setting records including Sunday being its all-time warmest.

Malin Head, most northerly station in Ireland, set a new April max record of 21.4 C on 19/04/19, breaking old record of 20.8 from 2011. Big difference from hour to hour depending on wind track. As for Easter Sunday, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales set new records for warmest Easter Sunday. England failed but came close to the 25.3C record with 24.6C reached at Wisley and Heathrow.
Another warm one coming up today for Easter Monday after a cool start in some eastern parts.
The UK Good Friday record of 26.9C, Easter Saturday of 29.4C, Easter Sunday of 25.3C remained intact BUT Monday’s 25C recorded at Northolt and Wisley breaks the UK record for Easter Monday.
In fact all four nations set a new Easter Monday record. Scotland reached 24.2C recorded at Kinlochewe, 23.6C for Cardiff, Wales and 21.4C at Armagh, Northern Ireland.
