Exactly a week after my successful trip to beautiful Lochnagar and the Mounth plateau 5, this time I head up the A90 towards Forfar and turn off and head up into Glen Clova.

This visit took on the last 2 of 14 munros to the east of the Cairnwell. This relatively easy 9 mile hike up through Glen Doll and summiting of Driesh and Mayar brought my total to 14 munros in a little over 4 weeks, since 25 August and grand total to 34 for 2018 so far and 70 overall.

Day/date: Saturday 29 September, 2018

Munros: Mayar, Driesh (No 69, 70)

Start point: Car park at Glen Clova

Drive length: 2.25 hours / 108 miles

Walk length: 9 miles / 5 hours

Weather: BASE: Clear 7C @ 7.30am / SUMMITS Mostly cloudy, strong wind 2C, -3C wind chill

John (from Gateshead) and I standing on top of a VERY windy Mayar.

En-route to Driesh and looking back at Mayar.

Nearing the top of Driesh.

Nice view looking down Glen Doll

Despite the threatening clouds above, the sunshine made for a golden North Sea.

The Lomond Hills of Fife seen some 50 miles away.

We make it to the summit of Driesh.

A steep, muddy, boggy descent through the pine trees.

The reason for the diversion… Tree harvesting

Lots of wood!
