Celebrating my 50th munro with 1st visit to the Lawers Group!

Written by on July 25, 2018 in Scottish Mountains with 0 Comments

Hot off the heels from 2 weeks in Cornwall and I’m back in the hills. This time I head to the north shores of Loch Tay and take on Scotland’s 10th highest mountain and two of it’s neighbors.

The car park and route was very well marked and easy to use compared to some. In order to reach Ben Lawers I crossed 3,617 ft Beinn Ghlas first and from here I had the first sights of 3,981 ft Ben Lawers. Today, I enjoyed taking on a 3rd munro, nearby 3,506 ft Meall Corranaich which takes my total to 52.

Day/date: Satursday 21 July, 2018

Munros: Beinn Ghlas, Ben Lawers, Meall Corranaich

Start point: National Trust Car Park

Drive length: 1 hour, 45 mins

Walk length: 7 miles / 4 hours, 35 mins

Weather: Mainly cloudy with 20C at bottom, 10C on summits

Beinn Ghlas awaits in the distance. Ben Lawers is out of sight.

A busy path!

1st munro of the day getting ever closer.

Within 1 hour, 20 minutes I reach the summit of 3,617 ft Beinn Ghlas and my 50th munro!

Now on to Ben Lawers, Scotland’s 10th highest munro.

Looking across to Meall Corranaich.

Now for the ascent!

Nearing the top

2nd summit of the day reached! 3,982ft Ben Lawers

Nice views

Rounding the northern side of Beinn Ghlas and looking back at Ben Lawers en-route to my 3rd and final munro of the day.

After a bit of a sweaty slog up, I finally reach the summit of 3,506 ft Meall Corranaich. The smallest of the three.

Summit of Meall Corranaich in between Beinn Ghlas left and Ben Lawers right.

An Stuc to the right.

Now for the steep descent and long path back towards the car park. Once down, it’s a good and fairly flat path.

Nearly back to the start. Beinn Ghlas and Meall Corranaich look far away!

The overcrowded car park!
