In recent years, heat has without a doubt been the dominant weather/climate story across Alaska. However, thanks to a cold trough spinning over northern Alaska a spell of unusual cool payed a visit to the Alaskan interior.

Fairbanks International Airport recorded a minimum of 36 degrees which ties a record low dating all the way back to 1931. It was not only the lowest June reading for the city in 12 years but the coldest for so late in the season since 1960.
