It’s Tuesday 15 May and I take on my 2nd climb and 3rd and 4th munro of 2018. No 38th and 39th total. I headed the unusually short distance and time to the south shore of Loch Earn to take on 3,280ft Ben Vorlich and 3,198ft Stuc a Chroin. These two munros can be seen widely across the Central Lowlands.
A mere 1hr 15min drive, I departed home at 11.20am and arrived at Ardvorlich at 12.30pm. Weather conditions were good for much of the 9 mile hike.
Conditions closed in once on the summit of Ben Vorlich and remained that way till on return to the car from Stuc a Chroin.
Nice view of Ben Vorlich from the car.
Picturesque start point.
Looking north over Loch Earn and Ardvorlich House.
Looking south
A steep final slog up to the summit.
Summit within reach but which of the three paths shall I take?
Looking down through the mist at a couple heading up behind me.
Summit of 3,230ft Ben Vorlich
Coming off the summit and heading WNW towards a more ‘hands on’ Stuc a’ Chroin..
Stuc a Chroin ridge trying to appear in the misty cloud.
This rocky wall on Stuc a chroin’s east face is the toughest section.
Here it goes. Into the cloud…
Impressive snow patches/drifts hanging on just below the ridge.
Summit cairn visible above the massive snow patches.
Summit of 3,198ft Stuc a Chroin. My 39th munro!
Heading back down.
From 3,200ft to the shores of Loch Earn!
