The memory of the coldest April since 1997 and 3rd coldest since 1979 may be toast given that the first half of May has been warmest on record.

Both Iowa and Wisconsin observed their coldest April in at least 124 years while eight other states had their second coldest. Two states also may have observed a new April low.

Meanwhile May has been warm, record warm.
