There has been some quite incredible temperature variability on the Plains this spring. In yesterday’s post I showed Dodge City, Kansas but their not alone. Thank or blame the worsening drought. Dry air cools and heats much more easily.
Take Gage, Oklahoma as an example. Within 36 hours the thermometer goes from 10s to low 100s.
Compare temperatures over Oklahoma Thursday afternoon to windchills Saturday morning …a day and a half later. #okwx@okmesonet pic.twitter.com/Pus5FvGizC

Like I said in yesterday’s post, only in the Plains do you get such extremes!
The drought is worsening.
A sign of the dry times in western Oklahoma? Try 200 consecutive days of less than 0.25'' of rain in Kenton. The 2nd map shows the accumulation of rain over the last 6 months. Panhandle #okmesonet sites have had less than 1 inch during that entire time – goodness gracious. #okwx pic.twitter.com/mZbrnUrrxx
