Pakistan, Qatar, Iraq, Turkmenistan, UAE Set New March Heat Benchmarks

While northern Europe shivered through March, much of central, Middle East and sub-continental Asia sweltered in truly remarkable mid summer level heat.

The contrast between NW and SE Eurasia couldn’t be more striking.

Between March 27-30, the Asian heat peaked, Nawabshah soared to 45.5C setting a new heat benchmark for Pakistan for the month of March.

This was just 0.1C off Asia’s March record held by India. March records were set in Islamabad and Peshawar, Pakistan with 36.0 and 37.4C respectively.

For the first time in recorded history, Turkmenistan surpassed the 40C mark in March at Tedzhen.

Into the Middle East deserts and Qatar observed it’s first March 40C in four cities.

Iraq also endured a new scorching March benchmark with 43.8C reached at Nassiriya, Basrah hit 42.6C. Baghdad also set a new monthly record at 36.6C.

The United Arab Emirates also observed a new national monthly high with Sweihan and Ahis Al Salem both reaching 41.3C.
