Beast From The East Part 2 Arrives This Weekend But Could UK’s Coldest Air In 8 Years Visit Afterwards?

What will be interesting with this net wave of Siberian cold dubbed the ‘beast from the east 2’ will be how cold AFTER the easterly winds. What I mean by that is the easterlies blew from Wednesday right through Sunday with a lot of cloud and snow in the air. While cold yes, there was enough ‘mixing’ to stop the temps from bottoming out overnight.

The models with this next beast indicate a few days of stinging easterlies straight from Russia with an increased snow threat once again but this time, a cold high is projected to drop over the UK. If this solution has merit, we’ve not only got the cold, the cold wind and the snow again but potentially the coldest nights of the entire winter and that would be pretty amazing given the time of year.

The models are all coming together for beast from the east part 2 starting this weekend. Expect highs struggling to get much above 0-3C, wind chills of -4 to -10C and frequent snow showers piling in from the North Sea. While the easterlies blow, don’t expect much overnight cooling, perhaps -2 to -5C but if the high settles over the fresh snow cover, we may once again threaten the coldest nights in the UK since December 2010.

The evolution of ‘beast from the east 2’ according to the latest run of the GFS. Watch the lows shift south and back west while heights sharply rise over Scandinavia which then transports Russian origin air back westwards across Europe and into the UK.

With a strong March sun, it becomes tougher to have snow lying at low levels during the day for a prolonged period of time. Overnight is likely to see the best accumulating snow. Could see significant amounts over higher ground.
