Thanks to a mid-winter depth trough vs a summer-like ridge, yesterday saw snow and sub-zero wind chills across Montana while at the same time cities in the East where enjoying their warmest February day on record.
AMAZING STUFF!

A 590+dm in summer is strong and produce heat waves but in February, it’s just ridiculous.
In fact it’s record breaking.
Record breaking upper level ridge of high pressure over the Southeast today. The 500mb heights(18,000') today are average for mid-summer around here. #ncwx #cltwx #scwx pic.twitter.com/1vlEtMysi8

The result was 80s all the way to West Virginia!
At this time of year where there’s record warmth there’s often record cold somewhere
While this is the scene in New York…
this is Montana with biting sub-zero wind chills.
Record cold West delivers a record warm East when you’ve got a highly amplified pattern.
It sure was record-breaking COLD this morning across western Montana!

In a day and a half, Denver dropped 72 degrees.
A lot of weather along the eastward progressing boundary just now separating summer from winter.
With powerful cold fronts separating extreme air masses come dramatic temp swings.
While in was winter on the north side of Oklahoma City yesterday it was still summer on the south side.
You can walk between seasons right now in Oklahoma. #okwx pic.twitter.com/AX8cEvVnjI
