Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia set new February heat records

It’s been unusually warm for so early in the year across parts of the Arabian Peninsula. Temps in the upper 20s, low 30s are common late February into March across the southern region.

But early week has of 37 to 40C are exceptional and record breaking.

Blame early summer-like 850mb temps over Saudi Arabia with 25C at 1500 metres.

Tropical Tidbits

The greatest coverage of extreme heat is over Sudan.

Both Kuwait and Qatar set new monthly national records while Saudi Arabia tied it with their earliest 40C.

Abu Samra recorded 38C which makes for a new February heat record for Qatar.
