It hit -41 in Minnesota yesterday and nearly reached that again in upstate New York this morning.

Think it was cold Christmas eve through Boxing day, think again as it looks like New Years eve through Jan 7 is even deeper cold.

Impressive to see GFS pushing 498 thicknesses almost down to NYC on Jan 1.
This suggests low single digit air temps. GFS appears to have 9F.
