The record cold continued to drill southwards and reached the Gulf Coast with near freezing temperatures recorded as far south as Houston, TX. This is an unusual Arctic outbreak for this far south, this early.

Several Southern cities have witnessed their coolest October values in over 20 years.

Back on Saturday Dallas, TX registered 34 degrees which was their lowest October value since 1993 while Atlanta, GA endured their coolest October day since 1993 with a high of 45 degrees.

Little Rock, AR witnessed their earliest sub-32 degrees Saturday since 1989 and with 28 degrees Sunday, it was the 2nd coldest Oct reading on record and first multiple Oct freezes since 1957.

Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport hit a record low of 35 degrees which was the coldest Oct night in 18 years and 5th coldest on record. Houston’s northern burbs even made it into the 20s!

Meanwhile Atlanta, GA witnessed a low of 32 degrees this morning This is the first freeze of the season and earliest since 2001.

This comes following yesterday’s 45 degree maximum, the coldest day for the city since… you’ve guessed it, 1993!
