Just two years ago we witnessed the survival of 73 snow patches, lasting from one winter to the next. The most since 1996. This year we’re seeing the least with only 3 remaining. 1 on Aonach Beag, the other two tiny patches tucked within Garbh Choire Mor on Braeriach.
Today I went to the largest snow patch (only 3 remain) in Scotland, on Aonach Beag. The snow visible fell in 2011, and was like glacial ice. pic.twitter.com/F9edmM3BgG

Ben Nevis was declared snow free this week for the first time in 11 years according to snow expert Iain Cameron.
The reason? The lack of winter snow combined with a warm, dry spring.
For the first time in 11 years there is no snow anywhere on Ben Nevis. It would have melted a few days ago, at this location. @bbcweather pic.twitter.com/5Ydv8lp2dQ

Mark Mullen's pic of Ben Nevis on Saturday shows a few small snow patches on life support. First time the Ben snow will be free since 2006. pic.twitter.com/rJJwXcoN1a
