The thermometer topped out at 34.5C late this afternoon at Heathrow Airport. This makes it the UK’s warmest June day since 1976. It’s also the UK’s warmest summer solstice. The only warmer June day was June 28, 1976 when Southampton reached 35.6C.
It was a tough evening commute for Londoners.

These storms could turn severe with frequent lightning, strong to even damaging wind and large hail as well as local flash flooding.
