It’s been another weekend of wild weather across the US featuring a rather soggy side and a rather wintry side. Rare May snow blanketed the high Appalachians as far south as Tennessee and North Carolina.
A trough centred over the Tennessee Valley saw warm, juicy air run up the East Coast generating training thunderstorms while southbound cold dove south in the wake of a storm system.
Torrential rains lasting 2-4 hours brought major flooding and disruption to the streets of New York City while the west side of Montreal was under water.

Crazy upside temps with 80s in Alberta, 60s Florida, 50s Alabama.

A report you’d expect on January 6 but certainly not May 6.

2:30 PM Update:
US 441 has just been re-closed due to ice and snow. We are now up to 6″ of snow on the ground with flakes still falling. A new wrinkle to the conditions are the increasing winds. We are getting gusts in excess of 20 mph currently, which is causing snow drifts to form. Temperatures remain in the mid 20s.

In the wake of the weekend rain and snow, a cold/dry high pressure system has sunk over the region making for an unseasonably cold start to Monday and Tuesday.
This morning’s temps at 6am.
Potentially colder for some tonight.
