Think last week was cold, the new week ahead promises to be even colder and likely record challenging.

First we’re dealing with snowfall stretching from Portland, OR to Portland, ME.

The core of this 2nd wave of cold remains north of the US-Canada border but this air mass is already oozing south into Montana and Dakotas this evening as the snow system pulls into the Northeast.

Yesterday 2-4″ of snow in the Twin Cities yesterday was indeed a daily record believe it or not.

A piece of the polar vortex coming down?

One could argue it.

The GFS Op shows the core of cold still way up over Arctic Canada but by the end of the week it’s over the Midwest or Northeast!
