Thanks to the weak polar vortex and recent split, we’ve seen a chilly and exciting open to November. Cold NE to ENE winds through the past weekend ease today as high pressure takes over and that means the first widespread hared frost tonight.
This weekend proved to be the first winter driving test over parts of the Highlands and North Pennines.

Winter has well and truly arrived in the Cairngorms. This was Cairngorm Mountain over the weekend thanks to air temp -2 to -4C coupled with wind gusts of 60-70 mph which held wind chill values in the -15 to -20C range all day.
We also saw the first closure of the A939 Cockbridge-Tomintoul route.

TONIGHT, we could see -9C somewhere over the UK tonight where there’s snow on the ground.
Through tomorrow and the Atlantic meets Arctic over the UK and that means the first significant snowfall of the season with accumulation possibly down to lower levels across N England and Scotland, particularly tomorrow night as the temperature falls. High ground could pick up a significant 6-12 inch accumulation with high road routes affected.
Met Office has issued a snow warning.
