Here’s a positive indicator. Siberian snowpack is growing faster as of October 1 this year compared to last.

Thank a strongly negative Arctic Oscillation.

Expect snow cover throughout Eurasia to continue expanding westward.

That negative Arctic Oscillation is helping feed some pretty chilly early season Arctic Russian air across Europe beneath a sprawling Scandinavia blocking high. This would be a very cold signal in mid winter, but it’s October and it’s chilly not cold given our easterly flow is crossing bare ground and not snow cover.

These pattern’s once established can be hard to break, therefore expect the continuation of that nagging easterly flow right through the weekend and on into next week. With the help of a ridge over trough squeeze, Arctic Russia origin air is cooling off the continent and this air of modified strength will reach the UK. Expect little to no Atlantic influence through at least the next 5-7 days. If only it were December or January right?

With the exceptions of shower activity, this is not a wet pattern.
