The family and I have been in Playa Del Ingles on the southern tip of Gran Canaria since the early hours of Friday. Late arriving due to a 4 hour flight delay.

Finally on our way!

Well for the last 3 days there’s been nothing but clear blue sky and highs between 26-30C.

‘Cut off upper low’

Then came today with cloud cover from the get go. Mid morning and winds picked up followed by a steady rain which has lasted all afternoon. On speaking to Thomas Cook reps, this is the first ‘drop’ of rain since at least April when many of them first arrived ahead of the busy summer season.

All thanks to a cut off upper low crossing the Canaries, not associated with the larger scale weather system near Iberia. It was seem by the models but not me!

Lightning strikes detected south of the islands, mainly this morning.
