UK: LOW PRESSURE PATTERN DOMINATES BUT NOT WITHOUT HEAT!

Written by on September 10, 2016 in Rest of Europe, Summer 2016, United Kingdom & Ireland with 0 Comments

As stated in the past week, we remain in a low pressure dominated pattern but the prevailing track (SSW) and position (generally SW of UK) continues to promote unusually warm, humid continental air in over the UK. Fronts are still bringing wet, windy (even gale force) winds to the western side of the UK but sunshine and low to mid 20s but sunshine prevails further east.

Through the upcoming week, temperatures shall remain 4-8, locally 10C above normal for near mid September.

This week could see low to mid-20s in Scotland and low 30s over Southern England ahead of a low this week which could make for the warmest September temperatures in several years.

The return of more Atlantic air makes a return through the second half of the week.

Through the first half of the week, lows push into France which turns winds SE or ESE which transports Med air all the way to Scotland but notice the above GFS surface shows lows coming into the UK further north which allows the return of fresher Atlantic air.
